Outstanding G Master™ resolution and bokeh from 100 to 400 mm

The lens delivers superb quality throughout its 100–400mm range and can be extended to 800mm with an optional teleconverter. ED XA, XA, Super ED and ED elements optimise chromatic and spherical aberration for high resolution, while the ED XA and XA elements contribute to exquisite G Master bokeh.

Fast, precise AF effortlessly tracks active subjects

Advanced algorithms and four XD Linear Motors drive the floating focus groups for up to 3x faster AF. Tracking performance is improved by up to 50%, while the α9 III supports reliable AF tracking at bursts of up to 120fps. Focus breathing and zoom-related focus and axial shifts are minimised for smooth movie imagery.

Lightweight for fatigue-free shooting

Magnesium alloy parts and careful design result in an overall weight of just 1,840 g. The inner zoom minimises centre-of-gravity shift during zooming, improving handling and manoeuvrability. Optimised zoom torque also supports smooth operation.

Advanced optical stabilisation and professional control

Optical stabilisation works with α in-body stabilisation to deliver outstanding results. The function ring can be assigned to Preset Focus, APS-C/Full Frame switching or Power Focus. A zoom smoothness switch and security slot are also provided.

Rugged reliability in challenging conditions

The lens features a dust- and moisture-resistant design for challenging conditions. A fluorine coating on the front element helps prevent fingerprints, dust, water, oil and other contaminants from adhering to the surface and makes cleaning easier.
