The new full-frame 12.1-megapixel back-illuminated Exmor R™ CMOS image sensor incorporates innovations in light-gathering, wiring and output optimisation. It delivers doubled readout speeds, high image quality throughout the sensitivity range, a 15-stop wide dynamic range, reduced rolling shutter and focal-plane phase-detection AF.

Our renowned sensitivity delivers expanded ISO 409600

The series delivers an expanded movie ISO range from 80 to 409600, with a standard range of 80–102400. The 12.1-megapixel full-frame sensor provides low noise throughout the sensitivity range and captures usable images in near total darkness through advanced light-gathering and output optimisation.

Fast Hybrid AF for accuracy and tenacity

The wide-area AF uses intelligent tracking and on-sensor phase-detection covering most of the frame. It provides accurate and tenacious autofocus performance with high-quality E-mount lenses, including when shooting moving subjects at shallow depths-of-field in 4K and at 120p frame rates.

High ISO sensitivity

The α7S III offers a standard ISO range of 80–102400, expandable to 40–409600 for stills. Its newly developed image sensor and image processing algorithms produce cleaner images and more natural textures, including when shooting in near total darkness.
