Advanced AI processing unit for high-level subject recognition

The α1 II features a dedicated AI processing unit that helps recognise people more accurately using human pose estimation. It also supports recognition of subjects such as animals, vehicles and insects with high accuracy, improving Real-time Recognition AF, Real-time Tracking and overall AF performance.

Enhanced human recognition with Real-time Recognition AF+13

The α1 II uses its AI processing unit and human pose estimation to improve recognition of subjects facing away from the camera, wearing sunglasses or with the face obscured. Version 4.0 and beyond offers more stable recognition of people in complex situations such as crowds or team sports, precise and consistent tracking, and persistent focus when subjects are temporarily obstructed.

A wide variety of subjects accurately recognised1214

A wider variety of subjects is recognised for stills and movies, with a new [Auto] mode allowing the camera to select. Recognition of animals overall is improved by approximately 30%, with eyes of some small animals added, while the eyes, heads and faces of animals such as dogs and cats are recognised. Recognition of birds is improved by 50%.

AF tracking response settable to match subject speed changes

Fast Hybrid AF provides 759 phase-detection points for tenacious tracking and pinpoint focusing. Adjustable tracking response speed is useful for situations such as bird photography, with focusing available in light levels down to EV-4.0 in AF-S mode.

Flexible focus area settings

XL and XS focus area spot sizes are available alongside L, M and S. XS can help avoid focusing on foreground objects such as branches. A custom focus area with a specified size and aspect ratio can also be created.
