XD Motors for fast, precise, tenacious AF

Two XD (extreme dynamic) linear motors provide fast, precise autofocus and reliable tracking. A dedicated control algorithm enables fast positioning of the large focus group with minimum delay and vibration, helping maintain accurate focus on fast-moving sports and wildlife subjects.

New large XA element delivers superb resolution and bokeh

The G Master optical design uses three fluorite elements to suppress chromatic aberration in telephoto shooting. A large XA (extreme aspherical) element helps eliminate onion-ring bokeh, while each lens is individually calibrated to achieve an ideal balance between resolution and bokeh. Optional 1.4x and 2.0x high-performance teleconverters are also supported.

With a weight of just 3,040 grams including the tripod mount, the lens is designed to balance well with compact, lightweight E-mount camera bodies. Its balanced design supports easy handling and precise panning when shooting handheld or with a monopod.

Reliability and durability for challenging conditions

The dust- and moisture-resistant design provides reliability for outdoor shooting in challenging conditions. The front lens element features a fluorine coating that helps repel water, oil and other contaminants. A rigid magnesium alloy is used for the lens barrel exterior, tripod mount area and critical interior areas for strength and durability.

Advanced features support professional needs

When the FULL TIME DMF switch is ON, manual focus can be engaged by operating the focus ring even while shooting in AF-C mode. Built-in Optical SteadyShot image stabilisation includes MODE 2 for panned shots and MODE 3 for dynamic sports or wildlife action, with MODE 3 providing a more stable viewfinder image for easier framing.
