Sony ULT TOWER 7 (SRS-ULT700): Specs, Features and Who Should Buy It
Posted by AVIT DIGITAL on
If your current speaker runs out of steam the moment a few friends arrive, the Sony ULT TOWER 7 is built for that problem. It is a large, battery-powered floor-standing speaker from Sony's ULT POWER SOUND range, aimed at house parties, backyard gatherings, karaoke nights and small DJ sets.
Here is what it offers, where it fits and where it doesn't.
The short version
- Sound: a 280 mm woofer, two midrange units and four tweeters, with 360° Party Sound
- Battery: up to 30 hours under Sony's test conditions
- Inputs: Bluetooth 5.3, microphone input, and wired RCA and XLR connections
- Mobility: built-in handles and wheels
- Weight: about 22.8 kg
Sound: built around the bass
The ULT TOWER 7 pairs a large 280 mm woofer with two 120 mm midrange drivers and four 50 mm tweeters (two at the front, two at the rear). That layout is what lets Sony spread sound around a room instead of aiming it at one spot.
Sony developed the ULT range with input from hip-hop sound creators, and the tuning reflects it. You get four sound modes: ULT1 and ULT2 for heavier bass emphasis, FLAT for a more neutral balance, and LIVE for a more open, live-event feel. The Sony | Sound Connect app adds a 10-band equaliser if you want finer control.
The speaker also senses whether it is standing upright or lying on its side and adjusts the sound to match, and it can optimise its output for the room it is in.
360° Party Sound and lighting
In a typical room, a speaker pushes sound forward and people at the back miss out. 360° Party Sound is designed to fill the space more evenly, so guests standing around the speaker hear a similar experience. Built-in lighting reacts to the music and can be turned off when you want a quieter look, or to save battery.
Connect a mic, a DJ setup or a second speaker
This is where the ULT TOWER 7 goes beyond a typical Bluetooth speaker:
- Karaoke: a dedicated microphone input lets you plug in a mic. The microphone is not included, so budget for one.
- DJ and wired sources: RCA and XLR connections suit mixers, controllers and other wired gear.
- Wireless: Bluetooth 5.3 supports SBC, AAC and LDAC.
- Multi-speaker: Stereo Pair and Party Chain functions let you link compatible Sony speakers.
Battery life: what 30 hours really means
Sony rates the battery at up to 30 hours, but that figure is measured with ULT1 or ULT2 on, volume at 17 and lighting off. Louder playback with lights on will shorten it. There is also a Stamina option that turns off lighting and sound effects to stretch runtime.
Charging is quick: ten minutes on the charger gives up to three hours of playback. A Battery Care function helps reduce overcharging to protect long-term battery health.
Handles, wheels and water resistance
At around 22.8 kg, this is not a speaker you carry in one hand. The built-in handles and wheels make it manageable to roll from a living room to a patio. It is rated IPX4, which covers splashes, but only when the speaker is positioned vertically. Don't leave it out in rain, and keep drinks away from the ports.

Who is it for?
A good fit if you:
- host parties or gatherings of 10 to 50 people and want real bass
- want karaoke without buying a separate PA system
- need to move your speaker between rooms or to the garden
- want to connect DJ gear or a mixer
Think twice if you:
- want something truly portable for travel or picnics (it's heavy)
- mostly listen quietly at a desk or in a small room (a smaller speaker will suit you better)
- need full outdoor weatherproofing
