Two XA (extreme aspherical) elements achieve superb resolution to the image edges, while two ED (extra-low dispersion) glass elements minimise chromatic aberration. Nano AR Coating II suppresses flare and ghosting, while the minimum focus distance is 0.85 m in AF and 0.8 m in MF.

Stunning G Master bokeh with smoother transitions

The optical design controls chromatic aberration for more natural bokeh. An 11-blade circular aperture and precisely controlled spherical aberration work with XA elements to minimise onion-ring bokeh, creating smooth transitions from sharp focus to deep bokeh at F1.4.

The full AF speed and precision of advanced α-series bodies realised

Two XD (extreme dynamic) linear motors and high-speed control provide AF speeds up to 3x faster than the previous model. Moving subject tracking is improved by as much as 7x, while the lens supports the 120fps capability of the α9 III.

20% less mass with no image quality compromise

XA elements, refined optics, XD linear motors and a compact circular aperture unit provide large-aperture performance in a compact body measuring 84.7 x 107.3 mm and weighing 642 g. The lens offers about 13% less volume and 20% less mass than the previous model.
